Reporting Police Officer Performance
Commendable actions / Citizens complaints
The City of Gadsden is proud of the officers who serve in our Police Department. We try to provide the best officers with the best training, to protect and serve the citizens of Gadsden, because we feel that Gadsden deserves the best. But we also realize that our citizens may sometimes have a complaint, SO to help us serve you better, when you are satisfied or dissatisfied with the Gadsden Police Department, then.......
How to Commend an Officer
Everyone appreciates a pat on the back or recognition for a job well done. Your Gadsden Police Officers certainly do. When you receive police service that you feel is commendable, we would like to know. You may deliver your comments in person, by letter or by telephone to the Professional Standards Division or the Chief of Police. Please include as much information as possible including the employee`s name, date and time of the incident, and the circumstances involved. The officer and their supervisor will be notified, and a copy of the commendation will be provided to the employee and placed in their personnel file.
How to File a Complaint
Just as commendations are important to continue to provide the level of service you deserve, legitimate grievances and complaints are viewed as an opportunity to correct the shortcomings of departmental policies, officer training, discipline or community education.
To protect the rights of both you and the officer involved, a carefully designed process is in place to investigate complaints concerning an officer`s actions or conduct. Your complaint may be reported to any employee of the Gadsden Police Department. The employee will listen to your complaint and establish contact between you and a supervisor. The supervisor will document the complaint using established department procedures, and forward your complaint to the Professional Standards Division.
The Professional Standards Division or the employee`s supervisor will conduct an investigation of all official complaints. Upon reaching a conclusion regarding a complaint the Professional Standards Division Commander will notify the complainant, in writing, of the completion of the investigation and the conclusion reached.
